What is strategic planning?

Strategic Planning developed its roots in the military, however it has grown into the business and higher education industries.

In short, strategic planning asks:

  • Where are we?
  • Where are we going?
  • How are we going to get there?
  • Did we get there?

Strategic plans in education tend to be results oriented, or results-based accountability (RBA).

There are several components to a Strategic Plan:

Components of Strategic Planning Levels of Institutional Planning
