Currently, research endeavors focus on the study of biological and biochemical phenomena (i.e., biochemical catalysis, hormonal interactions, and gene intercalation) involving the interactions of molecules small and large with an active or catalytic site. Molecular modeling and molecular mechanics that give insight to the structure, electron density, and molecular geometry of molecules are major foci of research activities. Undergraduate students are trained in computational methods as well and spectroscopic techniques (e.g., FT-IR, UV-Vis, NMR, and Fluorescence).
