The Grambling State University Visual & Performing Arts Department presents “Afro Angel”
April 9 @ 7:00 pm - April 11 @ 8:00 pm
$5.00 – $13Summary of Afro Angel
In an inner-city neighborhood on the brink of gentrification, Afro Angel follows a group of young Black professionals, community members, and struggling residents as they navigate issues of identity, loyalty, and survival. Desiree and Elise, two ambitious college students, arrive with a proposal meant to revitalize the area, but they quickly find themselves entangled in the lives of the people who call it home—people like Jacqueline, the neighborhood matriarch battling terminal illness; Russell, a young man torn between a better future and street life; and Cap, a former Marine haunted by his past. As tensions rise, each character must confront their personal “Afro Angel,” a guiding force representing truth, struggle, and self-discovery. With betrayals, hard choices, and a battle for community integrity, Afro Angel is a powerful meditation on resilience, legacy, and what it means to belong.
