Dr. Tanya Brandy joined the School of Social Work as a lecturer in 2023. Dr. Brandy received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a Master of Social Work degree from the Grambling State University. She also received a Master of Theology and a Doctor of Biblical Psychology from the H.O.P. E. Bible Institute in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and a Licensed Professional Christian Therapist (LPCT). She is a Certified Activity Therapy Facilitator by the Louisiana Association of Behavioral Health Board. She is a Certified Parent Instructor (CPI) and Certified Anger Management Specialist (CAMS). Dr. Brandy has over 12 years of clinical practice. Her clinical experience includes individual and group therapy through inpatient and outpatient settings. She has also provided services for multiple mental health agencies, child welfare, and hospital social work. She is a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and Women In The NAACP (WIN). She participates in a number of advisory boards and currently serves as the Phi Alpha Honor Society advisor at GSU. She teaches Introduction to Social Work, Social Work Interviewing and Communication Skills, Behavioral Health & General Social Work Practice, Social Welfare Policy 2, and Block Field.
