Dr Neal Hebert was born in Charenton, Louisiana and has worked as a director and dramaturg for the past 25 years. Hebert received his MA in Philosophy in 2008, and was awarded his PhD in Theatre History and Historiography under the direction of Dr Alan Sikes and Dr John Fletcher in 2016. An experienced educator, Hebert had the privilege of serving as Program Head of McKinley Senior High School's Theatre Program for 6 years. He has previously taught at LSU, Baton Rouge Community College, McNeese State University, and Southern University of Baton Rouge. Select shows from his career as a theatre practitioner include: Paula Vogel's How I Learned to Drive, Sam Shepard's Fool for Love, John C. Russell's Stupid Kids for Hebert's theatre company Bang Bang You're Dead Theatre, Neal LaBute's The Shape of Things and Fat Pig, and Naomi Iizuka's Good Kids. Hebert was proud to direct the Louisiana regional premiere of David Auburn' Proof in 2005. Hebert's research has been published in Open Court, Ecumenica, The Arthur Miller Journal, Theatre Annual, and Oxford University Press's first Anthology of Dance and Theatre. His forthcoming book written in collaboration with Dr Jon Cogburn of Louisiana State University, Kayfabe Nation: Professional Wrestling, Donald Trump, and the New Politics of Cynicism, will be published by Punctum Press in 2025.
