For more than 120 years, philanthropy has been a driving force behind student success at Grambling State University, and this fall, that legacy continues as 249 students have been awarded endowed scholarships totaling $232,500—representing a 31% increase from last semester. These scholarships, made possible by the generosity of numerous investors, will provide critical financial support for deserving students.

A total of 76 different scholarships were awarded, selected from a competitive pool of 7,137 applications. The applications were carefully reviewed by a dedicated team, including members of the GSU Scholarship Committee, Financial Aid Office, and University Advancement and Innovation staff.

“Endowed scholarships are a testament to the commitment of our investors and the hard work of our students,” said Dr. Martin Lemelle, Jr., President of Grambling State University. “We are deeply grateful to those who have contributed to ensuring that our students have access to the resources they need to succeed, which is crucial for enhancing student retention and fostering a supportive academic environment.”

Among the scholarships, the Dr. Neari F. Warner Endowed Student Scholarship was the most awarded, supporting 26 students. The SGA Centennial Campaign Endowed Scholarship followed closely, with 22 recipients. Additionally, the Modestine Gill Knighton and Beaver Bishop Knighton Scholarship provided financial assistance to 13 students.

“Financial support for scholarships is more than just a gift; it’s an investment in the future of our students and the communities they will serve,” said Brandon A. Logan, Vice President for University Advancement and Innovation. “Education remains one of the most powerful tools for economic and social mobility, and these scholarships help remove the financial barriers that can limit a student’s potential. Our goal is to award $500,000 in scholarships this school year to further elevate opportunities for student success.”

Grambling State University remains dedicated to its mission of providing opportunities for academic success and excellence. The University continues to work with donors to expand the availability of scholarships and ensure that financial barriers do not stand in the way of student achievement.
