A police officer’s previous occupational experience can have a major and valuable influence on a police officer’s discretionary decisions and a significant impact on how they make difficult decisions and live their lives.

Grambling State University has added more than a quarter century’s worth of experience with the promotion of Shreveport native Diana Coleman as the new GSU Assistant Chief of Police.

The Woodlawn High School graduate and daughter of Sgt. Ceaser Coleman Jr. and Earnestine Coleman earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Bossier Parish Community College and a Master’s Degree in Business Organizational Management from Wiley College.

Coleman began her law enforcement career with the Shreveport Police Department in 1995 and retired in 2024 with more than 27 years of experience.

“The GSU Police Department is grateful to have Assistant Chief Coleman as a part of our Gram Family,” said GSU Police Chief Rod Demery. “Since starting in January of 2024, she has been a major contributor and asset to the team. Her years of experience, dedication to service, and love for our community are just a few attributes that she possesses. We are lucky to have such a great Assistant Chief”

Coleman said she feels fortunate to be part of the GSUPD.

“It is an honor to be a part of the Grambling family,” Coleman said. “The warm welcome I received upon my arrival has made this transition an easier one. I look forward to working and growing with the Grambling State University police department as we strive for a community-oriented policing atmosphere and a safe campus for our students, faculty and staff.”
