Grambling State shares outlook for Fall 2021 semester
Face-to-face classes, increased accessibility to public events anticipated
GRAMBLING, La. – April 9, 2021 – After months of virtual and hybrid learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Grambling State University leadership is optimistic about classes returning to in-person learning for the fall 2021 semester.
The university will continue to follow state and federal guidelines to ensure the well-being of students, faculty, and staff including the wearing of face masks and social distancing.
“We intend to go to a face-to-face format for classes,” said Grambling State President Rick Gallot, explaining that the university will stand ready to pivot to online classes if necessary. “While the majority of classes will be offered in the classroom, some will still be available with online and hybrid options.”
Although students will not be required to get vaccinated before returning to campus, Gallot said he strongly encourages it. He said that he, his cabinet, and office staff are leading by example by getting the vaccine.
“We encourage everyone to receive a COVID-19 vaccine,” he said. “I felt confident in the science and in the advice of experts to do it. For those who choose not to, we encourage them to continue to wear a mask and exercise social distancing.”
The university also plans to continue sporting events and include additional activities in compliance with all state and government mandates, he said.
“We do intend to have more accessibility to our athletic events, social activities, and other events around campus,” Gallot said. “All of that could very well change. For now, that certainly is our plan.”
Grambling State University will continue to monitor COVID-19 and the distribution of vaccines and make any adjustments to plans for the fall as necessary. The university will continue to abide by COVID-19 mandates from the state of Louisiana, the University of Louisiana System, and guidelines from the Center for Disease Control.
