New Data Analytics Certificate Receives Board of Regents Approval
Program Designed to Meet Increasing Demand for Analysts in the Workplace
GRAMBLING, LA – October 28, 2020 – A new certificate in data analytics at Grambling State University has received Board of Regents approval.
Data analytics is the science of analyzing raw data in order to make conclusions about that information. Many of the techniques and processes of data analytics have been automated into mechanical processes and algorithms that work over raw data for human consumption. Data analytics techniques can reveal trends and metrics that would otherwise be lost in the mass of information. This information can then be used to optimize processes to increase the overall efficiency of a business or system.
Data analytics is an important skill set that applies to all college majors. The certificate at Grambling State will be available online and in a face-to-face format.
“This certificate is another example of the enhanced educational opportunities that are available to Grambling State students to fully prepare them for their careers,” President Rick Gallot said.
According to a Business-Higher Education Forum report, by 2021, 69 percent of employers in the United States will prefer job candidates with data analytics skills. According to this report, there were 2.35 million job postings for data science and analytics roles in 2015, and an increase in new job postings for this field was projected to reach 2.72 million in 2020.
“We are elated to have received approval from the University of Louisiana System and the Board of Regents to offer an undergraduate certificate program in data analytics at Grambling State University,” said Corisma Robinson Akins, project director at the Center for Mathematical Achievement in Science and Technology (CMAST).
“As the demand for qualified data analysts is rapidly increasing, this program provides GSU students with additional opportunities that will make them more marketable for current and future workforce needs,” she said.
