Grambling State Adopts Sean Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective College Students” for Freshman Foundation
Interim University College Director, Larry Green, Shares Insights Into First-Year Experience at Grambling State
Students at Grambling State have had the unique opportunity to join a family of peers, educators, and other advocates for their higher education since 1901. Since then, the Grambling experience has served as a cultural guide for other institutions, producing students who go on to lead in a variety of industries around the world. The tools and training that students receive from their very first moments on campus are foundational to their life-long successes, which is why every Grambling State student must complete the First-Year Experience class (FYE).
The Interim Director of University College and Professor for FYE, Larry Green, shares insights into the program that is shaping the way Grambling State students progress through their studies:
“The ultimate goal of our First-Year Experience (FYE) program is to cultivate and develop highly effective students who will excel academically and thrive in life beyond Grambling State University. Our team was extremely excited to introduce the 7 Habits of Highly Effective College Students by Sean Covey as the guiding model for our incoming freshmen. The transition to using this impactful course that provides our students with skills that are sustainable in college and beyond.
The 7 Habits are the world’s best-known personal-leadership framework, synthesizing key principles of personal and interpersonal effectiveness; we have already experienced an increase in student engagement and class attendance that we believe will lead to greater retention and graduation rates.
Upon completion of FYE 101 in Fall and FYE 102 in Spring, successful students will earn Franklin Covey’s Personal Leadership Certificate, which has the added bonus of an additional competitive edge in the career marketplace.
Employers around the world recognize Franklin Covey as an authority in personal and organizational effectiveness. We look forward to experiencing a paradigm shift in our Freshman students as they continue in their journey towards becoming highly effective.”
