From President & Mrs. Gallot on the passing of Willie D. Davis
To the Davis Family:
On behalf of our entire Grambling State University community, we want to offer our sincerest condolences on the passing of Grambling State Legend, Willie D. Davis.
To the world, he was probably best known as the premier Hall of Fame defensive end and team captain for the dominating Lombardi era Green Bay Packers of the 1960s, but to us he was much more. He was a trailblazer in the world of business, as adept in the boardroom of the numerous Fortune 500 corporations on who’s boards of directors he served as he was on the gridiron.
We are proud of our Grambling State alum’s accomplishments, including his MBA from the University of Chicago as well as numerous honorary degrees including, as well as becoming one of the first Black Americans to own a Class A radio broadcasting license. I am also proud of his legacy as a fellow brother of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
He would undoubtedly agree that his greatest achievement was his family. We especially send out prayers up for the close loved ones who adored Willie, including his wife, Carol, his children Duane (Inge) and Lori, grandchildren David, Wyatt, Harley and Hayden as well as his brothers and sisters and a host of family and friends.
We hope you take comfort in the ongoing impact of his extraordinary life as you endure this challenging time. We are grateful for his work and will keep your family lifted in our prayers.
Forever Grambling,
President and Mrs. Rick Gallot
