Featured Artist Kevin X. Rhodes in Dunbar Gallery, January 20 – February 26, 2015
From January 20 – February 26, 2015, Grambling State University’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts will feature an exhibition by Kevin X. Rhodes in Dunbar Gallery. The exhibition, entitled Continuum, explores traditional textile materials and how the essences of those materials are manifested through sculptures, drawn paintings, and photographic media. Rhodes states, “Process is important. The process generates a sensory communication between artist and object, in which an understanding of the material’s properties are developed.”
Rhodes received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Grambling State University in 2009. He continued his Post-Baccalaureate studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia. In 2014 Rhodes received a Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, GA. Gallery Director, Donna McGee stated, “We are very pleased to welcome Kevin back to GSU. He is an excellent role model for our students.”
On Thursday, January 22, 2015 the artist will present a public lecture that gives insight into his growth as an artist and the concepts behind his works. The lecture will be held in Grambling Hall Auditorium from 1:30 – 2:30 PM. A reception for the artist will be held after the lecture from 4:30 – 6:00 PM in Dunbar Gallery located on Hutchinson Street in Grambling, Louisiana.
